Mixed Daal
Blend of mixed lentils with traditional spices

INGREDIENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS
Main Ingredients
Daal:
Chana dal (Split desi chickpeas)- 1 cup
Urad dal/ Maash ki dal (Whole Black lentils)- ¼ cup
Green chillies- 6, small, chopped
Onion- 1, small, chopped
Olive oil- 1 tbsp
Chilli powder- ½ tsp
Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
Salt- ½ tsp
Dry roasted coriander powder- 1 tsp
Dry roasted cumin powder- 1 tsp
Garam masala- 1 tsp
Tadka:
Olive oil- 2 tbsp
Desi ghee- 6 tbsp
Garlic cloves- 6 to 7, diced
Ginger- 2 tbsp, chopped
Curry leaves- 3
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Wash both dals(lentils) separately and soak in water for 30 minutes. Drain water from lentils. Set aside.
2. In a pressure cooker, add 5 cups of water. Then, add urad dal, onion, green chillies, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and olive oil.
3. Bring to a boil. Then cover and pressure cook for 15 minutes on medium flame.
4. Turn off the pressure cooker. Urad daal should be almost tender.
5. Then add chana dal to urad dal. Add 3 cups of water.
6. Bring to a boil. Then cover and pressure cook for 15 minutes on medium flame.
7. Turn off pressure cooker. Both daals should now be tender.
8. Add water so curry is less thick.
9. Stir for a few minutes. Daals should be tender.
10. Then, add salt, roasted cumin powder and coriander powder.
11. Cook 5-7 minutes on low flame.
12. Add some water in case the mixture gets too thick. Turn off flame.
13. In another pan, we will make the tadka.
14. In this pan, add olive oil and garlic. Cook for 1 minute on medium flame until garlic turns light brown.
15. Add ginger and cook for 1 minute on medium flame until ginger turns light brown.
16. Then add curry leaves, cumin seeds, and desi ghee. Mix well.
17. Then add tadka to dal on medium flame. Stir it a couple of times for a few minutes. Add garam masala and mix.
18. Turn off flame. It’s ready.
19. Garnish with ginger and green chillies.
20. Serve with roti, naan, or rice! Enjoy!
